And it looks… fun?

Starting today, Meerkat gets more into the action.

The livestreaming service announced on Thursday that it is now compatible with GoPro cameras — just the Hero 3 at first, with support for the Hero 4 on the way — letting broadcasters use the miniature action cameras to stream video, instead of the cameras in their phones.

This isn't the first time GoPro users have been able to broadcast live. The app Livestream has been doing it since October of 2014, UStream supports GoPros, and GoPro's proprietary HeroCast is built to send live footage to a TV broadcaster. The Meerkat integration, though, looks simple and fun, and has an opportunity to connect with a new audience.

Once your phone is connected to the GoPro's wifi signal, you just open the app and then shake the phone to start a broadcast. It looks quick and easy and, given GoPro's adventurous community, could lead to some ~very exciting content streaming~ on Meerkat. For a company competing hard with other startups like Periscope and YouNow, it's a smart deal.

The GoPro integration is currently only available on iOS, but a build for Android is on the way.
